Community Helped Build a Sober Social Space in Downtown Naugatuck in Just 34 Days

If you walk into 160 Church Street in Naugatuck right now, you’ll see paint cans, ladders, tools, and a bar being built.

What you might not immediately see is the real story behind it.

In just 34 days, a vacant storefront has been transformed into a new kind of gathering place for the community — one centered around connection, wellness, and social experiences that don’t revolve around alcohol.

On March 21st, 3-21 No Kiddin’ will officially open its expanded location in downtown Naugatuck with a ribbon cutting at 3:21 PM, followed by a community celebration that evening.

The date isn’t random.

In fact, the entire project has been moving toward it.

The Meaning Behind 3-21 No Kiddin’

The name 3-21 marks a personal milestone for founder Bobbie.

March 21st is the date she stopped gambling. This year marks nine years since that turning point — a date that ultimately inspired the creation of the business.

The second part of the name, “No Kiddin’,” reflects the spirit behind the concept: a place where adults can gather without the pressures that often dominate social environments.

No alcohol.
No gambling.
No kids.

Just people connecting, relaxing, and enjoying time together with non-alcoholic drinks, wellness beverages, botanical drinks, and options like kava.

What began as a personal recovery milestone eventually grew into something bigger — a non-alcoholic bottle shop and sober social space in Connecticut designed for people who want to socialize differently.

Recovery may have inspired it.

But the community is what has grown it.

The First Space Was Built Just as Fast

This isn’t the first time the community has seen something like this happen.

The original 3-21 No Kiddin’ shop — a small 800-square-foot storefront just a few doors away — was also created quickly.

The decision to open that first location happened on the afternoon of September 21st, 2023.

The doors opened just 40 days later on November 1st.

At the time, the goal was simple: create a small proof-of-concept space where people could explore non-alcoholic drinks, functional beverages, and alcohol-free social options.

What happened next surprised everyone.

People didn’t just come to shop.

They stayed.

They talked.
They connected.
They sat down and exhaled.

Guests began asking for something more — not just a place to buy drinks, but a place where they could linger, relax, and gather together.

A bigger space.

A place to sit and breathe.

That feedback planted the seed for what would eventually become the new 2,500-square-foot location opening this March.

Two Years of Construction — and Community

Opening a small business on Church Street in downtown Naugatuck hasn’t been a quiet experience.

For nearly two years, the street had been under construction as the town works to improve and revitalize the area.

Like many businesses downtown, 3-21 No Kiddin’ learned how to adapt during that time — staying open, staying flexible, and continuing to serve customers while the street outside constantly changed.

What made the difference was the support of the community.

Regular guests kept coming back.
Neighbors spread the word.
Local businesses supported each other.
Town leadership encouraged new energy and new gathering spaces downtown.

Through construction, disruption, and uncertainty, the business stayed alive.

And the idea kept growing.

The Question That Changed Everything

Then came a simple conversation.

On February 9th, founder Bobbie and business partner Ky sat down and talked about the future.

The original shop had started as a small proof-of-concept location focused on non-alcoholic drinks, functional beverages, and alcohol-free social experiences.

But the community response had already outgrown the space.

After almost two years of building something during construction, they asked themselves a simple question:

What if we went bigger — NOW?

Within days, the decision was made.

By Wednesday, they called the landlord.

By Sunday morning, February 15, they picked up the keys to the larger space just a few doors down.

And from that moment on, the goal became clear:

Open by March 21st.

Why Everyone Is Racing the Clock

As soon as the new space came into play, something unexpected happened.

The community didn’t just cheer the idea on.

They jumped in to help.

Guests started volunteering.
Friends grabbed paint brushes.
Contractors squeezed in work whenever they could.
Neighbors offered tools, help, and encouragement.

And the reason was simple.

Most of them already understood what 3-21 means.

For the people who have supported the business from the beginning, that date isn’t just a grand opening.

It’s a milestone.

It represents nine years of recovery, resilience, and the belief that social life can exist without alcohol or gambling.

So when the idea emerged to open the larger space on that exact date, people rallied around the goal.

They wanted to help make it happen.

Furniture moved.
Walls were painted.
A bar began taking shape.
Lighting and finishing touches slowly came together.

Little by little, the empty storefront began transforming.

Not because of a large development project.

But because a community decided the date mattered.

More Than a Bottle Shop

The new 2,500-square-foot location allows 3-21 No Kiddin’ to expand far beyond retail.

While the shop continues to carry the largest selections of non-alcoholic beverages in Connecticut, the new space allows for a different kind of social experience built around the drinks themselves.

Guests will find a wide range of alcohol-free drink options, including:

• Non-alcoholic beers, wines, and craft alternatives
• Functional and botanical wellness drinks
Kava beverages, a traditional plant-based drink known for its calming and social effects
• Adaptogenic and alcohol-free cocktail alternatives
• A curated selection of wellness drinks designed for relaxation and connection

These drinks create a different kind of social environment — one where people can connect, unwind, and still feel good the next day.

The larger space will also include:

• Comfortable gathering space for friends and small groups
• A community game room with pool and classic arcade games
• Event space for tastings, workshops, and meetups
• Expanded community programming and partnerships

Existing events like Womenpreneur Wednesdays hosted by Organizing U will continue to grow alongside new wellness workshops, tastings, and social gatherings.

The goal is simple: create a place where people can relax, connect, and enjoy non-alcoholic and wellness beverages together.

A New Kind of Social Space for Naugatuck

Across the country, people are rethinking the way they socialize.

Communities are increasingly embracing spaces that prioritize wellness, creativity, and real connection without alcohol.

3-21 No Kiddin’ is part of that movement.

But in Naugatuck, it’s happening in a very local way.

Neighbors helping neighbors.
Small businesses supporting one another.
And a community building something together.

In many ways, the new space is simply the next step in something the community has been building together since the doors first opened in November 2023.
